History of On the Beach

On the Beach is an online UK-based travel company which was founded in 2004 by Simon Cooper. Billed as the largest UK independent beach holiday specialist, the company offers short, medium and long-term breaks to destinations across the world.

The company is the second set up by Cooper, chief executive officer of On the Beach, who began his career in the travel industry while still at university. He founded a company called On the Piste which was aimed at students who wanted to go skiing in the French Alps but who had limited budgets. It used coaches to transport passengers in order cut the costs.

Cooper operated On the Piste from 1995 to 2008, during which time he also set up On the Beach. When Thomson Holidays bought the skiing venture in 2008 he turned his attention full time to OTB.

The firm also invested in Resort Taxis to transfer customers to and from hotels in destinations including mainland Spain, the Algarve, Greece, the Canaries, Turkey and the Balearic Islands.

This was rebranded as On the Beach Transfers in 2012. Recent years also saw the founding of On the Beach Beds which was set up to enable OTB to negotiate directly with hotels in order to secure better rates for clients and increase its clout.

In 2012 On the Beach launched its support service for customers at resorts to give them a point of contact at the most popular destinations. It also offers optional welcome meetings, tours and excursion advice bookings as well as a 24/7 emergency hotline number. Cancellations

If you would like to cancel an aspect of your holiday booking, you can submit your request via the Manage Your Booking option. If you're looking for a full cancellation the system will calculate the charges applicable and confirm the cancellation for you. If you need to cancel your booking at a very late stage you may need to contact your insurance company in order to claim back the cost of the break from them.

On the Beach asks that you still cancel your holiday using Manage Your Booking, which will enable them to send you a letter of cancellation for you to send to your insurance company to assist with your claim.
